Cabin Fever -Shelf

Winter is way too long. We always get a little restless this time of year. So we decided to do some home improvements. Not a lot because this is not our house yet. Don’t worry everything we did was approved by grandma. From what I understand, this used to be a doorway that they filled with a shelf.

I think book shelves are nice in the right place but this one was just a magnet for junk. It probably looked really good with encyclopedias on it.

The shelves were removed. And by removed I mean that Tyler beat them until they came out.
after shelves are removed
This is what it looked like after demo.
space behind the carpet
We found some pretty old stuff under the shelf, behind the carpet. Old linoleum, a block, a brittle balloon.
This was the floor under the carpet. Not sure what it is.
Tyler screwed a board to the floor so he could mount supports for the sheet rock.
Before the sheet rock was put in.
All nailed in, ready for mud to cover those nails and gaps in the sides and top.
patched wall
This is what the wall looked like after the mud. It is now smooth and ready for the texture to be added. If you notice the texture on the wall around it is very heavy. Not an easy one to match.

This was a somewhat small project but we feel like it made a really big difference in the feel of the living room. We are really happy with the change.

Stay tuned for what else we updated.
